2019 Kentucky State Fair Largest Pumpkin and Largest Watermelon Contests

Largest Pumpkin Contest
1. The Largest Pumpkin Contest will take place at approximately 1:30 p.m. (It will immediately follow the Largest Watermelon Contest) on Thursday, August 15th on the West Hall Front Porch.
2. All pumpkins will remain on display for the duration of the Kentucky State Fair unless Fair management approves early release.
3. All pumpkins must be grown by exhibitor.
4. Exhibitors are limited to one entry.
5. Out of state entries are accepted in this class.
6. All entries must be made on official Kentucky State Fair entry forms for this competition and postmarked by July 1st or through our online entry system at www.kystatefair.org. Onsite registration is available on Thursday, August 15th until 12:00 Noon for an entry fee of $20.00 per exhibitor.
a. Exhibitors that enter prior to the event will receive a packet in the mail with a map and a loading pass that you will allow you access to West Wing pavilion drive. (Rules and Regulations from the packet will be available on our website.)
b. Exhibitors will need to pay admission and parking at the gate or purchase exhibitor tickets prior to the event.
c. Exhibitors who plan to enter on the day of the event will need to contact the Kentucky State Fair Entry Department by August 9th to request a loading pass and map. You will also have to pay admission and parking to come in to the fair.
7. Pumpkins must arrive on a pallet at the Kentucky State Fair on Thursday, August 15th between 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 Noon at the West Courtyard. (Exhibitors will be sent a map and loading pass.) A forklift will be available for loading and unloading.
8. Growers will need to load their pumpkins on a sufficient pallet at the farm for unloading purposes by a Kentucky State Fair forklift upon arrival at the fair. The Kentucky State Fair will not be responsible for insufficient pallets. Pallets should be able to be moved by a hydraulic hand-jack; the forks on the hydraulic hand-jack are 27” wide and 3 ½” tall.
9. Growers can pick up their pumpkins beginning on Sunday, August 25th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. or 10 a.m. to 12:00 Noon on Monday, August 26th.

Prize money will be awarded as follows and will be based on the final, official weight of all pumpkins:
o 1st Place: $500
o 2nd Place: $300
o 3rd Place: $250
o 4th Place: $200
o 5th Place: $150
o 6th Place: $100
o 7th Place: $75
o 8th Place: $75

The 1st place pumpkin weighing 1,000 lbs. or more, the exhibitor will receive a $1.00 per pound for the weight of the pumpkin. This award applies to the 1st Place pumpkin weighing 1,000 pounds and above ONLY. If the largest pumpkin does not weigh 1000 pounds or more to qualify for the $1.00 per pound, then the largest pumpkin will be awarded $500 for first place.

Please note: If the Largest Pumpkin weighs 1,000 lbs. or more, the exhibitor will receive premiums for the $1.00 per pound and will not receive the $500, prize money for 2nd place through 5th place will be adjusted up.

Largest Watermelon Contest
1. The Largest Watermelon Contest will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 15th on the West Hall Front Porch.
2. All watermelons will remain on display for the duration of the Kentucky State Fair unless Fair management approves early release.
3. All watermelons must be grown by exhibitor.
4. Exhibitors are limited to one entry.

o 1st place is $100
o 2nd place is $75
o 3rd place is $50
o 4th place is $25
